1982 |
A meeting was held at Lambton College in January. Forty professionals attended who represented several social service agencies from Lambton County. There was concern over the lack of a specific service for victims of sexual assault. n July the Support for Sexual Assault Victims ( S.S.A.V. ) was born |
1985 |
Support for Sexual Assault Victims became members of the Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres. |
1986 |
On May 29th Support for Sexual Assault Victims was incorporated as a non - profit charitable organization. Name officially changed to Sarnia / Lambton Sexual Assault Crisis Centre. |
1987 |
On going funding received from the Minister of the Solicitor General. |
1988 |
The Centre became a member agency of the Sarnia -Lambton United Way. This funding allowed the office to open Monday to Friday. |
1990 |
Ministry of the Attorney General announced increased funding for all sexual assault Centres over the next five years. |
1992 |
Name Changes to Sexual Assault Survivors' Centre Sarnia - Lambton. Programs expanded with the hiring of full - time counsellors. |
Present |
Sexual Assault Survivors' Centre Sarnia - Lambton currently funded by the Ministry of Attorney General and by private donations offers a full range of Services for survivors of Sexual Assault and sexual abuse, 16 years of age and older. |
